Terror Strikes Baisaran Valley: 28 Killed in Kashmir Tourist Attack

A horrific terrorist attack unfolded on April 22, 2025, in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, in Indian-administered Kashmir. At least 28 tourists—most of them Indian nationals, along with two foreign visitors—lost their lives when gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on a group of travelers. More than 35 others were injured, many critically.
According to officials, four militants emerged from nearby forested terrain and attacked the tourists at close range. The picturesque region, renowned for its natural beauty, has long been a favored destination for visitors. Authorities have classified the assault as an act of terrorism and believe the attackers are linked to militant groups opposing India’s presence in Kashmir.
A group calling itself “Kashmir Resistance” has claimed responsibility for the massacre, stating their opposition to India’s settlement policies in the region as the motive behind the attack.
The incident has sparked national outrage. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to bring those responsible to justice and assured the public that the victims would not be forgotten. Protests erupted in various cities, with some demonstrators accusing Pakistan of backing the militants—a claim Islamabad has not yet responded to.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance, who is currently in India on an official visit, strongly condemned the attack, expressing solidarity with the victims. Former U.S. President Donald Trump also weighed in, reiterating unwavering American support for India in its fight against terrorism.
In the wake of the assault, Indian security forces have launched a massive manhunt to capture the perpetrators. The attack has further intensified tensions in the already volatile Kashmir region, prompting concerns about renewed instability and cross-border friction.
