s Prime Minister Modi Really Retiring at 75?

As of April 2025, there has been no official announcement regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s retirement from active politics. Despite ongoing political speculation, senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have firmly denied any plans for Modi to step down upon reaching the age of 75.

BJP Leadership Denies Retirement Rumors

Responding to remarks made by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who speculated that Modi might retire due to his age, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that there is no rule in the BJP’s constitution that mandates retirement at 75. Shah further confirmed that Prime Minister Modi will continue to lead India during his current term and likely beyond.

Echoing Shah’s sentiments, BJP President JP Nadda emphasized that Modi remains committed to serving the nation. He described the Prime Minister as a guiding force in India’s development journey and stressed that his leadership would continue to be central in achieving the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India).

Political Context and Speculation

The retirement speculation surfaced after Kejriwal suggested that Modi’s advancing age might lead to a political transition, possibly positioning Amit Shah as a successor. However, BJP leaders have categorically dismissed these assumptions, reaffirming Modi’s pivotal role in the party and the government.

The debate has become a recurring theme in the political landscape, especially ahead of national elections. Yet, the consistent message from the BJP remains that Modi is not going anywhere anytime soon.

At this point, there is no credible evidence to suggest that Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to retire at 75. BJP leadership has repeatedly assured the public and party members that he will continue his leadership responsibilities well into the future. The rumors appear to be politically motivated rather than based on any actual developments.
