BEL Reports 16% Revenue Growth Despite Falling Short on Order Targets; Stock Drops 6%

Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna defense public sector enterprise, has been making headlines due to its financial growth, recent contract acquisitions, and strategic partnerships. This article presents a detailed analysis of BEL’s latest updates, including its financial performance, stock market trends, major defense orders, and collaborative initiatives.
BEL reported a provisional turnover of ₹23,000 crore for the financial year 2024-25 (FY25), reflecting a 16% increase from the ₹19,820 crore recorded in the previous year. Export sales also saw a significant boost, rising 14% to $106 million, compared to $92.28 million in the prior fiscal year.
However, despite this revenue growth, BEL missed its order inflow target for FY25. While the company aimed to secure ₹25,000 crore in new orders, it managed to accumulate ₹17,030 crore, falling short of expectations.
The lower-than-expected order inflows had an immediate impact on BEL’s stock price. On April 2, 2025, its shares declined by 6%, reaching an intraday low of ₹274.50 per share on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). Investors expressed concerns over the company’s ability to meet its projected growth targets, leading to a sell-off in the stock market.
On March 13, 2025, BEL secured a ₹2,463 crore contract to supply Ashwini Radars to the Indian Air Force. This advanced 4D multifunction phased array radar, developed in partnership with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is designed to enhance air defense operations. With this contract, BEL reinforced its role as a critical defense technology supplier, increasing its total order inflow for the fiscal year to ₹17,030 crore.
In January 2025, BEL announced new orders worth ₹561 crore, bringing the total order book for FY25 to ₹10,362 crore at that point. These orders included:
Communication systems and electro-optics
Upgrades for satellite communication networks
Radar and fire control systems
Supply of spares and support services
BEL has played a pivotal role in the development of the Akashteer system, an Air Defence Control & Reporting System designed to bolster the Indian Army’s air defense capabilities. The system integrates radar networks, surveillance assets, communication nodes, and command-and-control units to enhance situational awareness and response efficiency. By April 2024, the Indian Army began inducting the Akashteer system, marking a major milestone in India’s defense technology modernization.
BEL has proactively pursued strategic collaborations to expand its technology portfolio and strengthen its market position:
Joint Venture with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI): In March 2025, BEL partnered with IAI to establish a joint venture focused on advanced defense electronics and cutting-edge military technologies.
MoU with ISRO’s Space Applications Centre (SAC): On September 30, 2024, BEL signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SAC-ISRO to support the indigenization and production of space-grade Traveling Wave Tube Amplifiers (TWTAs). This initiative aims to boost India’s self-reliance in space technology and strengthen its satellite communication capabilities.
While BEL continues to demonstrate robust revenue growth and has secured significant contracts, the shortfall in order inflows for FY25 raises concerns about its long-term growth prospects. The company must focus on acquiring new defense and commercial contracts to sustain its growth trajectory and restore investor confidence.
Additionally, BEL’s strategic initiatives, technological advancements, and international collaborations will play a crucial role in maintaining its competitive edge in the global defense sector.
As India continues to prioritize indigenous defense production, BEL’s ability to innovate and expand its capabilities will be key to ensuring its long-term success and market leadership.
